Son watched LAFC's 2-1 win over Tigres UANL in the Leagues Cup on Tuesday. He later shared his thoughts with reporters, saying that LAFC's co-president John Thorrington had convinced him to join the team.
"It's a dream come true to be in LA," Son said. "To be honest, LAFC wasn't my first choice, but after speaking with John Thorrington, I changed my mind and my heart. He showed me the potential of the team and the city, and now I'm excited to be here."
LAFC had previously released a statement from Son, expressing his enthusiasm for the new challenge. "Los Angeles has a rich history of champion teams, and I'm excited to be a part of it," he said. "I'm looking forward to lifting trophies and giving my all for the club, the city, and its fans."
